Photovoltaic Installations (PV)

A guide to Solar Electricity

Solar electricity can save you money over the long term and, through the U.K. goverments 'feed in tariff' you can receive payment for the electricity that you generate, whether you use it yourself or feed it back into the grid.

In most situations solar power reduces the amount of electricity you 'import' from the grid rather than replacing your existing electricity supply. By doing this solar power also helps you to cut your overall carbon footprint.

To harness solar electricity, you'll need to install a photovoltaic(PV) system of solar panels in your property. If you want to benefit from the feed in tariff the system will have to be installed by a Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) accredited company. In simple terms, PV uses energy from the sun to create electricity. This electricity is then made compatible with the grid supply and fed into the property electrical system through a generation meter.
